Lion Bulk Handling attended AshTrans Athens 2026, bringing together professionals from across the international fly ash, cement and construction materials industries.

The two-day conference provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, discuss developments across the industry and connect with companies involved in the growing market for fly ash and Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs).

Fly ash, SCMs and the future of cement

As the cement industry works towards reducing its carbon footprint, the role of alternative materials such as fly ash and other SCMs is becoming increasingly important.

This transition also creates new challenges around the transport, storage and handling of these materials.

AshTrans provided a valuable platform for discussions around topics including SCM availability, logistics and the transition towards lower-carbon cement.

Cor de Kwant and Thijs Luijsterburg represented Lion Bulk Handling during the conference in Athens.

Throughout the event, they exchanged ideas with industry professionals and discussed developments in areas including:

  • Fly ash handling
  • SCM handling
  • Pneumatic conveying
  • Dry bulk logistics
  • Bulk handling systems

These conversations are increasingly relevant as cement producers and terminals prepare to handle a wider variety of materials within their supply chains.

Preparing bulk handling for new material flows

The transition towards lower-carbon cement is changing more than cement production itself.

As new materials enter the supply chain, bulk handling systems also need to accommodate different material characteristics, sources and transport requirements.

Events such as AshTrans provide an opportunity to share knowledge and better understand how these changing material flows will influence future storage, conveying and terminal operations.

We would like to thank INTERCEM and AshTrans for bringing the industry together in Athens.
